Today was a weight train day and I coupled that with a pool workout. I have been weight training for some time so this was nothing different. Worked chest and triceps today and it was a pretty good workout. I also did some core work at the end but again, that is normal.
I am used to doing about 20 minutes on the elliptical, 15 minutes spinning, and then 3-4 miles running after my weight training days but with my workout plan I scrapped all of that for the sake of not burning myself out. It was weird because I am used to being at the gym and doing cardio for 90 minutes or more but I was able to get in and out in less than half the time.
After the gym I went to the pool. It has been a really, really long time since I have done that. I am a fairly good swimmer but I think I underestimated how out of shape I was swimming wise. Being my easy swim day I wanted to just get used to things. I did six sets of 50-yard freestyle swims and then followed that with four sets of 25-yard kick boarding. I call it kick boarding but basically it is my holding a floatation board and just using my legs to get down the pool.
The swimming was hard, I am not going to lie. I really have to get used to breathing in the pool and keeping it constant. I felt myself trying to hold my breath too long and that just made things a lot worse. I guess this is a live and learn experience.
